Theist aren’t necessary stupid. They are just a bit desparate to believe in something.

When I had an existential crisis triggered by a fear of death. I suddenly felt the urge to believe in souls and spirits and stuff, not religion, but like I believed how I wouldn’t actually die and my matter would be transformed into energy and maybe I get to live again… somehow… maybe reincarnation…

But of course, scientifically, there’s no evidence for it. I don’t really believe these spirits thing any more. But it’s what people need to suppress their fear, it’s what they need to get them through every day.

As long as they aren’t preaching it to others and claim as if it were a fact, or being an arsehole to others for not believing in the same beliefs, I’d say just leave people alone. Life is too short to be fearing death all the time. Sometimes these beliefs are just what they need to keep them going, even if they might be wrong.

It’s about perspective for me. How appreciative am I feeling of my experiences? When I think of God I don’t think of something mystical. I think of the thing that science is fleshing out in every direction and every detail. I just don’t see a genuine difference between the two, for my uses.

Um… that’s an instance thing. Many instance disables downvotes to promote positivity. If you made an account on lemmy.world, you could actually downvote, just not if you are from an instance which disables downvotes. (your instance lemmy.blahaj.zone has disabled downvotes)

Edit: On the browser ui, the downvote button is actually not even shown when viewed from lemmy.blahaj.zone but some apps still show it for some reason.
