  • Neurotypical is the word you’re looking for. Where do you slot ADHD folks in the autism vs allism spectrum? Because if it’s the latter that’s not fair to those of us with adhd and if it’s the former then it’s neurodivergence which……already has a counterpart.

My point is autism is a defined thing. Allism is not having the thing. But my original comment still remains the use of allism generally comes with a negative connotation. Whether that’s part of the denotation makes no difference.

EDIT to add I’m an atheist. There is no word for me not being catholic though. I’m also not Baptist or Muslim. But I don’t need a descriptor for each one. Where you fall in the divergence spectrum is categorized but not falling in there already has a designation. Hope that clears up my point.

  • Organized hobbies have been the key for me. Gives me a place to go, forces me to be minimally social, but can allow for multiple events so the pressure is reduced to make the most of every outing. Plus you have something else you’re enjoying. Everyone’s recommendations of sports or gaming falls right in line with this. But I have other hobbies I love like woodworking that I can find places to take classes and meet people. The other benefit is the more you do it the more you get used to be out among people again and it can be less awkward/anxiety inducing.
