I gotta say, Brazil vetoing Venezuela’s admission to the BRICS is really disappointing. Glad to see the other BRICS members aren’t taking that as a signal to avoid making their own deals.

Both Hamas and Hezbollah have popular support from their constituencies and are functionally their own governments. It doesn’t matter if they’re good guys or not, they’re the ones who have the mandate of the people. Israel’s murder spree only increases support for the Axis of Resistance.

They were in a bubble of other blue-no-matter-who media and were assured by the consultants from Clinton’s campaign and the Labour Party that they could ignore those polls.

So really, it would have taken a big enough push from the public that MSNBC became anti-genocide. Hypothetically it could have happened, but the Democratic base is too disorganized to pull that kind of bottom-up messaging coup off.

If Democrats knew they’d lose for supporting genocide,.they wouldn’t have done it. It’s precisely because blue-no-matter-who voters convinced them that they were invincible that they ended up losing. They thought they could bully the base into voting for them because enough of the base was willing to be bullied and proud of it.

On the other side, Trump is more likely to lose the war on Palestine.

Israel is destroying the UN, what are you talking about? They aren’t just evil,. they’re blatantly violating all international laws and attacking UN peace keepers and declaring UN agencies to be terrorist organizations.

If Israel does not face consequences for what it is doing then the UN will go the way of the League of Nations.

They burned a police station down. That’s not something people do when they’re too comfortable.

It was a revolutionary moment, there just wasn’t an organized political force or party to take control of the situation and push forward an agenda. It was merely more of the same leaderless horizonalism that characterized the 2010s. That shit doesn’t work, but that doesn’t mean nothing else was possible. We won’t have a revolution just because people are uncomfortable. It requires organizing, which is what we should be doing right now and immediately after Trump steals the election.

Oh I absolutely loved it, don’t get me wrong. I lived through that decade as my own political awakening, so every single event described was something I watched super closely and posted about and participated in as part of the online activist space (and sometimes in person!)

Your observation that the social media companies can leverage and benefit from these protest movements (and perhaps even create them) is important, I think. It’s probably why Musk bought Twitter, he wanted to wield that kind of power over the masses and their ability to organize. It seems to have worked, too. We don’t see anything like what we saw in the 2010s these days.

The guerilla must move among people as a fish swims in the sea. While you say we only face poor outcomes, I see this as a strategic opportunity. I’m in the enemy’s rear, in the heart of its operations. Right where I need to be.

I read another book along similar lines called If We Burn, which was a broader look at the 2010s protest movements that sprung up from online activism. What I took away from it is that most of that activism was hollow and didn’t have a political vision or party program, it was just the masses shouting “No!” at their shitty governments. It was also easily put down once people in power got used to it.

I’m in the heart of the empire.

The largest protest movement in US history happened under Trump. People aren’t that comfortable, and you yourself probably believe Trump is going to make a lot of people very uncomfortable.

That’s called multipolarity.

I’m trans in a red state. I am not safe.

I just recognize that the US is a blight and must be destroyed, and that one candidate is more likely to result in the US’s defeat.

That’s more of a silver lining, though.
