It isn’t hard to see why France is taking action to manage visitor numbers. After all, locals and the environment should come first. If they can’t survive, will there eventually be anything actually worth visiting?
Excellent. This about sums it up. Portugal could take a page off France’s book while it is not too late, but I won’t hold my breath.
I very much enjoy to travel. When I visit I want to be part of the country, culture, life, not put up in a hotel complex that could have been put anywhere in the world because they all look the same. What’s the point of visiting a country if all you ever see is the pool and the bar?
well the same applies for european tourists: please dont visit north african (and overall poor) countries because we are suffering from water scarcity and we already going through water rationning, ie water on certain amount of time during the day, usually 15 hours per day. we barely have usd/eur currency reserves to buy ourselves critical stuff like wheat and petrol, which most of the time is also subsidized. visiting tourists enjoy cheap vacation but hurt the environment and locals and benefit only hotel owners, whom are a handful. i already commented such thing before on r/france, since my country is a cheap destination for the french, and other european nationalities. be thoughtful please.

exactly, better be a traveller of the earth than being a tourist. the earth is a common asset that belongs to us all.
