Hi there, simply looking for alternatives to Canva. I use this to make quick and easy presentations for Uni. But would like to find opensource alternatives. I am aware of the Libre and OpenOffice Suites ofc, but are there any other ones more similar to Canva?
Appreciate any suggestions.
Penpot, inkscape, gimp, krita. You get no preset templates but they all do the same thing as canva. If you’re not looking for something opensource then you can try postermywall.
Appreciate it, but yeah those first, although great tools, I believe it would take a long time to get pretty presentations up and running quickly. Thanks though!
Penpot is quite easy to use and show a presentation in. Use unsplash or pexels for images and the prototype view for presenting. If you’re not looking for FOSS there’s a lot of AI presentation tools out there.
Yeah it seems quite similar to Figma which I have a lot of experience with, so at least it could be a good alternative for that :)
If you’re looking for presentations, you can try Xmind. It’s not opensource, but it’s available on Linux and it’s got something called “presentation mode” which is absolutely amazing.
Penpot is a good alternative, and it’s open source.
Wow, I was unaware of this. Thanks!
What’s the main motivation for an open-source alternative?
Trust. Lack of telemetry, and potential surveillance. Ability to contribute. Etc etc. For me, anyway.
And supported creations that deserves to be supported ✨
They likely don’t have a subscription behind features could be a reason as well
I do ask my presentations with RevealJs. You get all the flexibility of HTML+CSS, and the built in slide themes are sexy af.
OnlyOffice Is the easiest open source tool you’ll find for making presentations.
If you are either already experienced with some basic html and javascript or willing to learn some, reveal.js is my goto for things outside of work (really need to stick to the presentation file/application that is standard at the company in those settings). The creator also has slides.com, but you’ll have to pay to get much use out of it (free edition limits to 5 presentations and they are all publicly viewable/searchable and can have ads added to them).
