Title says it all. Got the message of three remaining videos and then it locked.

I am using FireFox

Edit: Apparently, it was caused by me being logged into YouTube. But I would really like to be. Because that’s where all my subscriptions are. If anyone knows of a way to have it both ways, please let me know.

Edit’ : It was my Ghostery extension that was causing ruckus. I don’t really like the idea of having to switch it off but at least it’s nice to know the cause. Anyway, everything is working now. Even when I am logged in ^^

Also to anyone reading this, keep clearing your cache and update in UBlock Origin!

Recommendation: report the pop-up as a bug with the provided link. Just act confused and claim to not be using an ad blocker. Muddy the waters and make life hell for their devs.

As a SWE you have responsibility for what you do. “Golden handcuffs” isn’t a cover to help wage wars against users. If it becomes an undesirable posting, they’ll either have to pay more or worse engineers will end up working on it.

Judging from how many voters are in the US, it’s basically a totalitarian dictatorship or die.

That like of reasoning is kinda broken. We need people to take responsibility before things go too far. Google engineers can get jobs anywhere, they don’t need to be doing this shit if they don’t want to.

The devs aren’t the ones making these decisions. That’s like chewing out a customer support rep because their CEO did something you didn’t like. Aim your anger more carefully.

How, though? Just like chewing out a customer support rep, the goal is to make it so either the employees constantly bring it up to their managers or they quit and the company can’t find workers because it’s so miserable.

Are the SWEs responsible for the decision? No. But if they find it too miserable to continue, they will quit and the people responsible will eventually have to respond.

That’s really the only way to direct your anger at a CEO… Through the pocketbook. It’s unfortunate that it’s through the front line, but that’s part of the job.

You’re okay with putting somebody out of a job because of something somebody else did?

Ghostery, Privacy Badger, etc, are all redundant if you have ublock origin anyway. uBO blocks all the stuff they block, and having multiple blockers makes it more likely they’ll interfere with each other.

Hey bro, what about “I still don’t care about cookies”, “Duckduckgo privacy Essentials” and Mozilla’s “Enhanced tracking protection” ?? Does uBO fulfill all of their roles too?

There are additional lists you can activate to block annoyances like cookie banners. If you want to it’s possible to add the whole “I still don’t care about cookies” as a custom list so you combine the functionality without the added redundancy.

All the trackers that firefox blocks should be included in ublock origin as well. I’m not quite sure about their cookie isolation, but if you already block the tracking cookies you don’t really need that.

As for DDGEP, it’s also mostly a list of different trackers that get blocked which is redundant. The enforced https can also be achieved through browser settings. As for the link shortening to remove tracking, ublock has additional lists for that too. No idea about the supposed Google AMP protection and what it really does, but it also looks like a link shortener.

All in all, pretty much all functionality is covered by ublock origin, but it does require you to go into settings and enable some additional lists.

Bro wtf get out of my mind, How in God’s name did you answer a question I forgot to ask!
If I may ask, do you know of a megathread of the popular filters/lists to ublock origin ? they don’t provide one on their subreddit

I want to use it but does it support subscriptions/ accounts? I have a lot of subs and I don’t wanna resub manually to all of them :(

      EDIT: You absolutely can:

      1. Go to https://takeout.google.com/ (login if needed)
      2. Select only YouTube > All YouTube data > Deselect all > Select only Subs
      3. Download the takeout file and extract the .csv
      4. In Freetube, go to Settings > Data Settings > Import subs and click on the .csv
      5. Enjoy!

iirc the ublock origin team said that youtube updates its antiblock solutions at least twice a day. It’s a constant battle.

Go into your uBlock settings and purge the cache and update your filters, that should fix it, filters do usually keep up to date with YouTube but uBlock stores the old ones cached.

For now I am not messing with my extensions to prevent the YT message. I found that the extension Kill Sticky, which eliminates all kinds of elements that cover content, blows away the popup. So, I just dismiss the message with one click when it comes up.

Eventually the adblocker situation will improve, I hope, but for now doing it this way is only a minor inconvenience.

Edit to add: Well I got the “countdown” popup, and you can certainly dodge it by blowing it away with a tool that deletes overlays… but the countdown continues and then it does block the content in a new way. Other people posted that accepting the ads once resets the countdown, this did not work for me. I ended up installing my own Invidious instance since I have a Linux box on my LAN but I look forward to better anti-anti-adblock extensions.

SmartTube on Android TV still works great.
