I’m enjoying the lemmy.world experience, and I believe decentralised social networking could be the future. I am a refugee from Reddit and hopeful there is hope for a open, community focused platform.
As for this platform, I am apprehensive about somebody running the server I have my account with having the power to remove my account and my posts, but I guess this is true of any network in existence.
My concern in the long run is who pays for the hardware and energy costs even if it is federated. Without some kind of reliable funding model who will pay the bills?
Hopeful for many enjoyable encounters in the Fediverse.
Thanks cookiecollision.
I’ve just discovered the app Jerboa. It’s available for Android, don’t know about Apple. Not shilling but it’s a great experience really. I was using Relay for Reddit and I feel right at home. Really have to recommend it!
Finding it challenging to get my head around this federation concept but I have a kbin.social account also. Hopefully someone will make a good YouTube introduction to the whole affair. Happy to be here, and hats off to the Devs.
Woohoo… First comment :)
Hi. New user here! I think the Fediverse is cool but there are definitely some anomalies. I have a lemmy.world account and a kbin.social one too.
I posted on the Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz instance using lemmy.world. The thing is, there is one comment that is visible using my kbin.social that is not visable using my lemmy.world account. If I hadn’t checked I would not know about this comment. Every other comment works fine, and I have waited about a day to see if it would appear. Don’t know if it’s a bug, or a feature!
Really enjoying the experience overall.
