Meat assults are not a great thing to learn.
How old are you? The Cuban missile crisis was far worse than this - but 1962 was 62 years ago - not many people alive are old enough to remember how bad it was then. For most of us that is just something for history while the things happening today are real to us.
Odds are this will pass, but just like in 1962 nobody knew for sure we were not on the brink of war, I cannot tell you for sure.
Every since the end of WWII there has regularly been things happening that felt like we were steering towards WWIII. You have to learn to live your life, you have no idea in advance what will actually start WWIII. There are of course plenty of signs but you don’t know until after WWIII is over what were important. Even WWII when the first shots were fired did not have to become a world war, things just escalated in ways that you couldn’t be sure at the time they would.
Don’t real the above as you shouldn’t work for peace, or that you shouldn’t prepare for WWIII. You should be doing both at the same time. The cost of peace sometimes higher than the costs of war - and war is expensive! (peace can sometimes only be had at the cost of becoming a slave - I’d rather my kids die in war than become slaves)
Tesla can detect a crash and send the last minute of data back so all cars learn from is. I don’t know if they do but they can.
A tree is a terrible representation since people will appear in more than one place on it. brother sisters marriages (which did happen) tend to produce deformed kids, but first cousins have good odds for normal kids. By third cousin odds of genetic issues was close enough to zero, but those kids will have six great great grand parents not the mathematical eight. I didn’t mention half siblings but that happens too and a couple generations below could marry safely.
the above isn’t just theoretical. Before modern transport you often lived and married in the same village for many generations. It would often be impossible to find anyone to have kids with that wasn’t at least sixth cousins from more than one path.
I’ve never been in a zoo I’m allowed to drive more thln e wheelchair through. They may require extra training - I would not know
everyone knows that. People pay more attention when they know you check and the most where they think you will check. the only reason for the m&m thing is it is easy to check so anyone who has heard of this will be extra careful to do that. Meanwhile the hard to check places might be ignored. The m&m work well when it came off as spoiled brats asking for something stupid. Nevermind the dangerious fireworks on an unsupported stage, those brats screamed about the m&ms.
Mostly I was being snarky, I can’t recall a situation where I’ve been concerned enough to leave such a tell.
Though there is a good warning there: if people expect you are leaving a tell they will look for it. Splitting kit kat bars is easy and obviously not something you really care about except to check so they do that, then skimp on the hard things you care about in hopes that you don’t crawl under the stage to check the bracing is done right. Thus whatever tell you leave make sure there are a few that are hard enough to check that they think you won’t.
You should know how to brake without causing maneuver problems (including not locking up the wheels). It is a basic skill needed for many situations. Just keep slowing down, the accelerate just before impact is something that can only be done in movies - any real world attempt will be worse - remember if you keep braking you lose momentum, so the acceleration needs to be perfectly timed or it is worse.
I don’t know, where I live giraffes are only in the zoo and thus never on the road. I’m not aware of any escaping the zoo.
I’m sure if I lived around wild deere, my training would include that, but since I don’t I was able to save some time by not learning that.
Deer often travel in herds so where there is one there are often more. In rural area you can go miles without seeing one, and then see 10 in a few hundred feet. There are deer in those miles you didn’t see them as well, but they happened to not be near the road then.
Driving is full of edge cases. Humans are also bad drivers who get edge cases wrong all the time.
The real question isn’t is Tesla better/worse in anyone in particular, but overall how does Tesla compare. If a Tesla is better in some situations and worse in others and so overall just as bad as a human I can accept it. Is Tesla is overall worse then they shouldn’t be driving at all (If they can identify those situations they can stop and make a human take over). If a Tesla is overall better then I’ll accept a few edge cases where they are worse.
Tesla claims overall they are better, but they may not be telling the truth. One would think regulators have data for the above - but they are not talking about it.
Sure, I do that too. I also have had damage because a deer I didn’t see jumped out of the trees onto the road. (Though as others pointed out this case the deer was on the road with plenty of time to stop (or at least greatly slow down), but the Tesla did nothing.
Deer on the road is an edge case that humans cannot handle well. In general every option other than hitting the deer is overall worse - which is why most insurance companies won’t increase your rates if you hit a deer and file a claim for repairs.
The only way to not hit/kill hundreds of deer (thousands? I don’t know the number) every year is to reduce rural speed limits to unreasonably slow speeds. Deer jump out of dark places right in front of cars all the time - the only option to avoid it that might work is either drive in the other lanes (which sometimes means into an oncoming car), or into the ditch (you have no clue what might be there - if you are lucky the car just rolls, but there could be large rocks or strong fence posts and the car stops instantly. Note that this all happens fast, you can’t think you only get to react. Drivers in rural areas are taught to hit the brakes and maintain their lane.
Let me head over to lemmy.ml and create a list of all the things the left wing stands for too. There is no particular agreement on any side on all issues. Governments have often done a poor job of what they should do, and when they do something you don’t get any options. There are many regulations causing more harm than good. And so on - there is plenty of observation and logic behind the various right wing positions - you don’t have to agree with them, but please start thinking about things from other points of view and understanding instead of attacking someone who makes one point on every possible thing you disagree with assuming they both support that other thing as well, and also that they are evil.
Anytime you mention anything right wing you get a lot of downvotes and a lot of railing against MAGA. It is almost enough to make me vote for Trump just out of spite. There might be a “silent majority” that doesn’t do that, but the evidence that anyone can see: comments and votes are clearly intolerant of all right wing discussion.
Just look at all the different replies I’ve got - most of them instead of looking at Lemmy in the mirror proved the point by jumping onto railing against MAGA.
upgrade your house insulation, get a heat pump on the central furnace, and heat the whole house. People have better things todo than closing vents or moving heaters., your central furnace needs most of the vents open to work right.
Maybe but they are not in my feeds.
At this point the culture had shifted to not value large families and so few even think it is possible while not having kids seems like a valid option. It takes years to shift this even with an effort to encourage kids.
