I read it and I think I understand why people are using it, but just to clarify your Google play example: you still can’t use it without being signed into Google account, right? Is your concern what the app does while it’s not running? Because it feels like they’ll still collect the same amount of info once your sign in to install the apps.

Do you you try to use F-droid for most things?

Does anything related to money work on GOS? Bank apps, check deposits, credit card apps, nfc payments? Any other apps/features disabled by Google?

Seems like a huge sacrifice for perceived privacy improvement.

How is this significantly different from using vanilla Android without signing into any Google accounts?

Aren’t most questions like this are simply looking at what approach you try and not a solution? They’ve been at it for years so they can easily tell if you’re trying something that makes sense or something trivial even if they don’t have a solution or even if there isn’t one.

I couldn’t even find a place to do it. Only config for display scaling applied or to all monitors. And it requires a restart of kde every time. So either large external screen became unusable or the small laptop screen.

I haven’t used Xorg in years. All my problems are in Wayland.

Great, now please fix per monitor scaling. 4k laptops are unusable when connected to large 4k screens. I need no scaling on large external screen and about 175% on laptop’s 16".

Worked with them one year. They are seriously understaffed, I’m guessing from underfunding. They try to guilt trip you to collect fruits from your trees when they are perfectly ripe and deliver to nearest collection center. If you’re like most people and called them because you don’t have time for either, they will try to find a volunteer who will show up at some random point in the future and collect a negligible amount of fruit from one tree. I really hope they are contributing as much to food redistribution as this article makes it seem, but I seriously doubt it. Great idea on paper, but doesn’t really work as far as I can tell from very limited experience.

I did block entire hexbear and specific communities on ml. I just meant subjects in general.

As long as your sick to non political or historical communities, they are tolerable. Any deviation from above and you might as well be on hexbear.

I use the same combo on my phone without any issues or ads. Why use a client on the phone?

This comment will get down voted to absolute zero but: Samsung has amazing hardware and one of the worst software you could possibly put on a mobile device. Probably worst experience I’ve ever had using a mobile device. My experience was with S10.

Google has fantastic software and absolute shit hardware. Terrible battery life. Phone constantly lags and overheats from normal use. Terrible reception and non stop Bluetooth problems. Currently suffering with p7pro.

Oneplus was a fantastic company that created a phone that combined top of the line hardware with decent software at a very reasonable cost. Unfortunately now enshittification took over. Phones are overpriced, support is nonexistent and resale/trade in value is near zero. My experience was with Op8pro. Probably second best phone I’ve ever owned.

Other manufacturers like Sony, Asus, Nothing and Motorola are really a niche market now. They seem happy targeting a very narrow range of market. I’ve tried several phones from each brand, but never kept one longer than a week.

I’m sticking with pixel at the moment because software is so good it’s actually able to make this steaming pile of shit hardware semi functional.

I used to work in the same industry. We transferred several PBs from West US to Australia using Aspera via thick AWS pipes. Awesome software.

It really isn’t unless they changed since we used it 5 years ago. It just had a microphone and went through several levels of rocking based on how much sound mics picked up. It worked whether it was connected or not. Internet was just for notifications. Your baby screaming is usually a pretty clear notification.
